Myths and truth about Perfume
We hear a lot of fake news here at The Perfume Shop, especially about how perfume should be worn or chosen. So, how do you separate fact from fiction? Well, you don’t need to because we’ve rounded up the most common fragrance tales and determined whether they’re true or not!
1. The Pricier The Perfume, The Better The Scent
The common belief is that expensive perfumes have a better and more long-lasting fragrance than the ones that are more cost-effective but it’s entirely false.
There are some really good perfumes that don’t burn a hole in your pocket but have a premium feel.
2. Perfume Should Be Rubbed On Skin
We have seen many people spraying their perfumes on the pressure points like wrists and rubbing the area to make the fragrance last longer. However, it only makes the alcohol present in perfume open the pores of the skin which might irritate sensitive skin and not even stay because rubbing it makes it evaporate. Besides, doing so you brake perfumes pyramid.
3. Spraying & Walking Into It Is The Right Way
This can make the perfume go into your nose, mouth, and eyes and might cause irritation while you waste a whole lot of product with this air spraying method.
The right way to apply it is to hold the bottle at a distance of 10-15, spray it onto the skin and let it absorb naturally.
4. Perfumes Don’t Expire
Perfumes do go bad even if the expiration date is not written on the back of the bottle.
The life of a particular fragrance depends on the concentration used and it can vary from 2 to 10 years. Storing it well makes the life longer while heat, and moisture can make it go off earlier.
5. Fragrances Smell The Same On Everyone
Not true! The fragrance payoff depends on body odour, natural oils and bacteria on the skin, sweat and many more things that come into play. Thus, every perfume smells different on different people.6. Only Strong Perfumes Are Good
While strong perfumes have a higher fragrance concentration and would have a powerful and unmissable smell, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Perfumes with subtle fragrances can be equally good and long-lasting. A good perfume is one that stays longer and has a nice smell like this one from the brand Villain.7. You Can’t Mix Two Or More Fragrances
You can and should layer your perfumes to get your customised, signature fragrance. It’s a myth that layering different perfumes will create an unpleasant smell or cancel out each other.
The truth is that mixing two fragrances can actually give you a new and unique fragrance.
